STRENGTHENING OF SURFACE WATER BASE ORGANISATION SUB DIVISION

The Strengthening of Surface Water Base Organisation or SSWBO Sub Division is one of the sub-division under Technical Services Division of Karnataka Engineering Research Station which was formed in 1982 and providing services in the field of surface water hydrology. The Sub division is headed by a Research Officer of rank Assistant Executive Engineer who in turn is supported by both technical and administrative staff. The Research Officer has the responsibility of both drawing and disbursement along with the overall in-charge of the sub division

The sub division was formed mainly to do the research work related to surface water hydrology. The sub division is well equipped with high configuration computers with i-7 processor, and multi-function printer. Software such as ERDAS Imagine, Arc-GIS, Q-GIS, ILWIS, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, Arc-SWAT are used for the research activities of the sub division. The technical staffs in the sub division are well trained with these software.

The sub division is taking up studies pertaining to;

Hydrologic review of large dams and reservoir routing.
Development of lumped and distributed catchment models for estimation of inflow flood hydrographs at a given outlet point on the stream.
Rainfall analysis and preparation of isopluvial maps for different return periods.
Flood frequency analysis and regionalisation of river basins to develop regional flood equations.
Dam break analysis to estimate dam break floods.
Preparation of inundation maps for various scenarios of dam break.
Capacity evaluation of reservoirs using remote sensing and GIS technique.
Other research activities pertaining to surface water hydrology.
